Chris Steubing, Pastor
pastorchris@hopempls.org

Born in San Antonio, TX, Chris grew up in a rural area of south central Texas. A formative aspect of his faith and discovery of gifts for ministry was singing in the choir of the small country church where he grew in faith as a youth. He attended Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX and spent a year abroad in Finland while an undergraduate. After college, he participated in the Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Program in South Korea for a year, living with a host family and teaching English in a boys’ high school.

Chris worked as a youth minister for several years before attending Luther Seminary, serving churches in Brenham, TX, San Antonio, TX, and Stillwater, MN. After serving a pastoral internship at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Chris worked for two years as praise band director at North Presbyterian Church in North St. Paul before being ordained and starting his first call in 2008 as a parish pastor in the St. Paul Area Synod.

Chris is passionate about creativity in worship and music, cross-cultural and cross-generational outreach, children, youth, and family ministry, and mission revitalization. In his Sabbath time, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife Amy and children Ameya (4) and Asher (1), running or hiking on many of Minnesota’s great trails, and reading non-fiction.

Hi, my name is Amy Morphew and I am delighted to join you in ministry at HOPE, as your new Children, Youth and Education Minister.

I enjoy many things... my top ten things are:

God, my children, my husband, camp fires, cooking, diet coke,, photography, traveling, shopping, and walking.

I have many ‘High Hopes” as I begin my ministry here at HOPE... I know you do too. Please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email, or stop me in the hall to chat or to discuss topics about the children, youth and or education.  I look forward to getting to know you as we minister together.

Russ Carlson, Music Minister
music@hopempls.org / 612-827-2655

Russ holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Augsburg College.  He has served in various churches in the Twin Cities Metro area since 1973, holding positions of organist, choral director, and/or Director/Minister of Music.  His extensive choral background includes singing with the Minnesota Chorale, One Voice Mixed Voice Chorus, Exultate Chamber Chorus and Orchestra.  He served as assistant conductor for six years with Exultate and can be heard as soloist on several of the Exultate recordings.  He was the co-founder and co-director of the short-lived Shoreview Community Chorus.  He has also sung with Augsburg’s Masterwork Chorale, MacPhail’s Sonomento and is presently a tenor in the Oratorio Society of Minnesota. He loves to sing!  Most importantly, though is his love for sacred music and sharing God’s message through music.  He has been singing since childhood and playing the organ since he was a teenager and continues to find much joy in sharing these gifts with others.

hopepreschool@msn.com / 612-827-4369

Hi, my name is Michelle Florey. I am the Director of Hope's Preschool and Childcare as well as a teacher in the 3 year old class.  I began my journey with Hope as a parent in 1998 when my oldest of three daughters started at the preschool.  I then began teaching here in 2003 and became the director in 2011.

My educational background is in Child Development, Family Life Ministry and educational Psychology.

My time outside of school is filled with busy and fun filled days with my husband and 3 beautiful daughters. I enjoy watching all of their sports and activities, playing board and card games as well as watching the food network with all 3 of my children (we love it!).

Kristi Gay, Administrator
secretary@hopempls.org / 612-827-2655

Hi, I’m Kristi Gay and I have been Hope’s secretary for about 4 years now.  My husband, sons and I joined Hope as members in 2007 and I started working in the office in 2008.  Our family is involved in Hope through the council, Sunday School program and other volunteer areas.

In our spare time, the boys are involved in activities like football, baseball and basketball.  We get to watch a lot of practices and games throughout the year.  I like to be reading at least one book at all times, so if you have a good recommendation let me know.
